On
Garrett Kato’s self-titled EP, he fills his work with images through poetic story-telling derived from the landmarks of life. “Its Fresh indie pop that will whisk you into a dreamy state” written by a Sir Groovy reviewer. He draws his influences from traditional Blue Grass as well as 1960’s and 70’s Folk and Rock and Roll.
His EP was recorded at Vogville Studios and at his home in Port Coquitlam, where he helped produce and track his own music. One track recorded from the new release was inspired from the motion picture film “There Will Be Blood” The track, “H.W.”, is based around the story of a young boy who was raised within the American Oil Industry in the early 20th century.
Garrett Kato was born and raised in Port Coquitlam B.C. where he found music from an old dusty electric guitar that his uncle gave him. Starting out, he played electric guitar for a modern rock band as well as working on his solo material. At the age of sixteen, he began playing gigs downtown and all across the lower mainland. Recently, he toured Vancouver Island, including dates in Victoria, Duncan and Nanaimo.
Garrett’s music and songwriting has quickly brought him to the forefront of Vancouver’s local music scene. He rapidly created a buzz around the city and has been receiving high praise from all those who have heard him. In a span of a month, Garrett had reached the Top 10 of the highly regarded 99.3 The Fox Seeds competition, the Top 20 of 100.5 The Peak’s inaugural
Peak Performance Project, and won a spot to play at the famous Vans Warped Tour at Thunderbird Stadium. During a live interview, Sandra Klaric of The Peak described Garrett as being “the next big thing”, and praised the “the quality of (his) musicianship and vocals” from his live performance.
Garrett can now be found playing regular gigs regular gigs around the Greater Vancouver area. He always plays his original songs, but will also be found playing classics from artists such as
Bob Dylan,
Bruce Springsteen and
Neil Young. You can catch him playing shows at live venues downtown, and in front of smaller crowds in coffee shops and restaurants. Garrett will also playing more shows in other towns and cities in the near future.
Upon the release of his EP, Garrett will challenge and entertain his listeners through his melodies, imagery and life experiences. He is hopeful for a bright future and a fulfilling career doing what he truly loves.
Windborn is acoustic alternative music like you've probably never heard it before. Driven by powerful vocals, ripping guitar riffs and hand percussion, Windborn is building a genre of it's own. Windborn is mainly Jeff Pike's solo effort but for the last year he's been joined by Scott Melnick on percussion for live shows. Jeff has been playing guitar and percussion since 1997 when his brother's band decided that he should be their drummer. He'd never played drums before but it opened the door to what lead to Windborn ten years later.
For five years, Jeff fronted a three piece hard rock band called
Agent-O. Agent-O placed all over Alberta, received radio plays on 5 different Alberta stations and was featured on a new music sampler from Music Center Canada in Calgary.
After recording a song for the compilation CD Agent-O went on to record a 5 song EP in their studios which you can listen to at
www.myspace.com/AgentORock. Jeff moved to Kelowna, BC in the summer of 2007 from Alberta to be in a more Central Area to Tour Western Canada.
Since the move, he's been doing concerts from Red Deer, Alberta to Vancouver and everywhere in between. He has been very involved in Kelowna's local music scene putting together concerts with local and out of town bands, doing fundraisers for local college radio and playing four concerts with local and out of town bands, doing fundraisers for local college radio and playing four concerts for Kelowna's Summer Outdoor Concert Series, Parks Alive. Presently Jeff is on the finishing stages of his first full length as Windborn which should be released Winter 2010.
