Habitat and Friends bring you the first ever Local Showcase. Created by Jeff Pike (Windborn), these showcases aim to give local artists a chance to perform onstage at Habitat along with friends and some new faces. The evening also aims at raising awareness surrounding local talent.

Windborn:
Windborn is acoustic alternative music with an edge. Windborn's music can make you feel like you're in a small coffee shop one moment and then an arena show the next. Windborn started as Jeff Pike's solo acoustic music 3 years ago and has become a 2 piece band since then with the addition of Scott Melnyk on hand percussion. Jeff has always been into making huge sounding music even when he's playing a solo gig. Windborn has been played on radio stations across canada and has played shows all over BC and Alberta. They have also just recently released a 6 song EP available for purchase on iTunes.

Capture The Flag:
The members of Capture the Flag have been a solid part of kelowna's music scene for the past 10 years as members of bands like Sideflight, Maylynn and In a Whisper. Now with Blair Balehowsky on acoustic guitar and Steve Johnston on drums Capture the Flag is bringing their own unique style of alternative rock.

Split The Silence:
Described as melodic and honest, Split the Silence, of Kelowna BC, is influenced by bands like Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, Bedouin Soundclash, We Are The City and Yukon Blonde. This three piece group consists of Tim Hirtz (Guitar, Piano, Vocals), Kyle Shannon (Bass, Sax, Vocals) and Danny Carolson (Drums). Split the Silences' appeal is as wide ranged as their songs. They evoke the audience to listen, reflect and become immediately attached to the honesty of the words and music.

Nixie:
Nixie recently spent 2 weeks in Vancouver.BC. recording with their producer, Futcher, at Nimbus School of Recording Arts. Futcher is already linked with acts such as (Fences, Lillix, The Be Good Tanyas) and is a compliment to Nixie's fresh and vibrant sound. Extraordinary circumstances brought the two forces together in harmony, to record and produce what will be the breakthrough album of 2010. Promise.

During their first two summers, Nixie had the privilege of touring across Western Canada. Performance venues included the infamous Canmore Hotel, New City Likwid Lounge in Edmonton, O'Hanlon's in Regina, and various others between Vancouver.BC. and Winnipeg.MB. Nixie has graced the stage at the British Columbia Interior Music Awards (2008), the BC Summer games (2008), and at world renowned festival Shambhala in Salmo, BC (2008/09). Nixie was dubbed BC Interior Music Nominee hopefuls for 2009 and has performed alongside bigger named acts such as Kinnie Star, Wassabi Collective, Moses Mayes, The Sleddogs, Mapping the Escape, etc. The girls were recently recognized during the final panel (top 90 of 450 applicants from around BC) in Vancouver's 2009 Peak Performance Project Talent search.
