The ZolasThe Zolas' debut album 'Tic Toc Tic' mixes infectious indie-pop
songs with hairpin turns, schizoid piano throwdowns, and a sort of
cabaret strut. This prog-pop treasure chest is equal parts catchy and
cryptic; it's like Justin Timberlake meets The Beatles, or maybe
Coldplay meets The Clash. There’s something happening on the west coast. Whether it’s in the air,
the water, or the drugs, a pool of talent has formed around the notion
that you can have your pop and eat it too, with brainy, prog-influenced
weird-beards like Bend Sinister and arcane psycho-confectioners Mother
Mother demonstrating that musical complexity can still be hummable.
Commercial, even. Throw The Zolas into the picture and dammit – you might even call it a
scene! Not that it’s ever been a concern to long-term musical partners
Zach Gray and Tom Dobrzanski.
Jen LaneJen Lane is getting ready to release her new album this fall. The album
is called "For The Night" and was produced by Steven Drake (the Odds)
at Stone Canyon Studios in Vancouver, and mastered by Greg Calbi at
Sterling Sound in New York. The album will feature 12 brand new songs,
including a new full band version of "Grey Skies". There are some
amazing musical guests on the record including, Kevin Kane (Grapes of
Wrath), John Ellis (Ridley Bent), Simon Kendall (Stellar Band), Sam
Cartwright (Bruno Trio), John Antoniuk (smokekiller), Megan Lane, and of
course, Steven Drake.
We Are the City
We Are The City is a three piece progressive indie rock act from the
Okanagan lakeside city of Kelowna, British Columbia, featuring three
young composers: Cayne McKenzie on vocals and keys, David Menzel on
guitar, and Andy Huculiak on the drums. They draw inspiration from Muse, Coldplay, Mew, and Radiohead. They
have already shared the stage with Yukon Blonde, Secret & Whisper,
Bend Sinister, The Zolas, Said The Whale, Dan Mangan, and Mother Mother.
We Are The City recently took home the grand prize of $150,000 towards
career development for winning 100.5 The Peak FM’s BC competition, the
Peak Performance Project, over 450 other BC artists. We Are the City will convince you with their good hearts and inspiring
sounds to come and be a part of their city.
You Say Party
British Columbia’s You Say Party are back! Having reinvented themselves
with their spirited style of New-Wave, and a new depth of material,
the band is excited to announce the details of their much-anticipated
third release, XXXX, out on Paper Bag Records on Sept. 29th. YSP has
embraced soul, feeling, and rhythm while still bearing the tenets of
their original sound, which caused critics around the globe to embrace
the band’s first two albums, Hit the Floor! and Lose All Time.
