Often described as one of Canada’s best up-and-coming acts, Hey Ocean is a young band with an extraordinary talent for blending various musical styles into a brand of infectious pop that is uniquely their own.

Together, Ashleigh Ball, David Beckingham and David Vertesi have created a musical repertoire that cannot be ignored – be it on radio, television or your neighbor’s iPod, Hey Ocean will soon be everywhere.

Aside from the skillful delivery of their music, what sets Hey Ocean apart is the spirited character they bring to the stage. Three mischievous personalities combine to form a dynamic live presence that keeps concertgoers captivated and on their feet. In fact, live performance has been an integral part of what the band calls their “natural growth.” But what began as a very casual musical partnership between friends has, in less than four years, morphed into one of Canada’s most successful independent bands.

Hey Ocean just signed with Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. On November 1, after a three year hiatus, Hey Ocean are set to release their anticipated digital EP titled, Big Blue Wave. The EP, which includes the band’s forthcoming radio single of the same name, features four brand new recordings.

After being independent for over half a decade, the release of Big Blue Wave will be Hey Ocean’s first since signing with Universal Music Canada. Historically, the band has been hands-on every step of the way, releasing through their own label, Pop Machine and touring tirelessly from coast to coast. Their captivating and energetic live show has not only earned them the loyalty of an ever-expanding fan base, but also the reputation for being one of Canada’s best young bands.

The Belle Game stand below Vancouver’s glittering buildings and tall, swaying trees, down at the beach. All six, or seven or sometimes eight of us face the ocean and play for you in the sun..

We play for you because we like you. A lot. You listen to us, let us sleep on your couches, buy our t-shirts. You are everything to us.Sometimes, when we’re performing. . . we even imagine you naked.

Our trumpet blows and flutters over you, acoustic guitars send shimmering notes into you. Our voices tempt you with lilting, whimsical melodies. A violin’s bow draws you back in time. You smile and begin to move with the people around you, closing your eyes as rainclouds begin to gather. You get lost in hints of orchestral pop, touches of alt-country and indie rock. We pound frenetic rhythms for you; boys and girls all drumming together–gleaming, spirited and handsome. You sing and clap along as the rain falls heavily and the air turns cool. We make you move faster, everybody moving, staying warm together.

A fierce storm now blows overhead as our guitars begin to growl. Our bass rumbles, voices howl, keyboards strike long, dark notes. Things get wilder, sharper, more focused. You feel your world about to break apart. You move and can’t stop moving.
Giant waves from the Pacific wash ashore, claiming everything. All around you nothing but water. You swim and revel in the sound of things ending

We pull you to safety in our boat.
