Vancouver Island based band
Current Swell is 4 guys on a mission.
Scott Stanton, Davers Lang, Louis Sadava, and Chris Petersen have a
unique style of music that is deeply rooted in folk and blues, reggae
inspired, and rock driven. the musical recipe is equal parts praire and
coastal, blending a couple of acoustic guitars, a lap slide, harmonica,
drums, bass, and 3 vocal mics. This formula amounts to a tightly
polished act and is pushing the boundary of what people know as "new"
music.
Looking back on the last 4 years, Current Swell has seen massive
independent success. the release of "So I Say" in 2005 gained the group
the instant momentum they needed to become one of the hottest new acts
in British Columbia. That success garnered "what started out as a surf
trip..." throughout indonesia and australia which "...turned into a
full time musical mission. Playing tons of shows, earning many fans and
writing like crazy." said Lang. When the guys returned , they commited
to a relentless touring schedule to establish themselves across canada.
The boys eventually found time between tours to lay down their next
batch of songs and in June 2007, "Trust Us Now" was released. Just one
year later they went back to work in the studio and they're 3rd album
is due for a February 09 release on a Western Canadian Tour with
Australia's Ash Grunwald. They are working with producer Todd Simcoe
who has recorded with Xavier Rudd and the Be Good Tanyas.
Rogerthat are the sound of spiraling petrol prices, political scandal, a ready supply of the drug of your choice, roaming bikie gangs, botched invasion attempts, one raised finger to the man, a surfboard hitting that wave and fucking it all. They fly that freak flag up on high and into the sky. Swaying like the breeze, mind whistling like leaves, it's all in the way Bailey on vocals (with his Amish beard and anti-establishment grooves) make THIS band the very Zeitgeist of it all!
If ever there was anything lacking from our apocalypse as envisioned in childhood, it's in the sights THEY bring to our feverish minds – it’s in the second coming of the mad 70's blunt groove, Rogerthat style. Bikini girls on Harley's, swallowing swords and spitting out fire.
The breath of fresh air we needed, smoking out the room to an intangible haze. Walking the water and swimming the land. If ever there was a diagonal slide into sweet oblivion that needed magnifying with guitar, bass, drum and electrified amp, Rogerthat are the one to deliver it. They're a spaghetti western act of desperado with both guns blazing moments before the saloon goes down in flames.
devonandkevin met six years ago
at an open mic at "The Well" in Kelowna and have been making music
since then. Many other members have came and gone but, the two of them
have always stuck with one another. Musically, they've grown since then
into a two man acoustic performance that has become original to them
and has taken them on a path that they would never of imagined
possible. Playing music is their passion and what drives both their
lives, making new melodies, creating new hooks, writing new words and
being able to perform them to a live audience is what it's all about.
They
have only one goal, and that is to share their music with as many
people as possible. The energy that music brings to people or the
energy that the people bring to the music is beyond anything that words
can describe and that is what makes it a staple in the lives of both
Devon and Kevin and others.
