Leaves are whistling across the ground and you’ve found yourself reaching for a scarf before heading out the door. It’s dark by 6 and it is no longer ok to wear sandals, but not time to strap on the bindings yet.

Sigh. Fall is here, and on it’s way out.

Don’t let winter blues get you down… take the opportunity to spend more time inside.

Inside your local live music venue, say…

I want to take this time to remind us all how awesome live music is, and why:

-acting and reacting, it’s all about energy. The band gets you excited, you get the band excited, and it just keeps going and going. There is something tingly you feel in the pit of your belly that wakes up in the presence of good music, being made in your presence. You can’t feel the vibes alone with your ipod.

-people watching. Yes. don’t deny it. inside each one of us is a crouching voyeur. Not only can you watch the musicians on stage, you can observe cool people like you. And, there is nothing strange about going to see a live show by yourself. You’re here for the music, and you can take that opportunity to sit back with a cold brew, and watch. Sit at the back booths for added perspective

-discovery. lots of bands sound way better live than they do recorded, and there are tons of sweet bands who don’t have records yet! You learn something new every day, why not learn about some new music?

-community. I think we  get caught up in our lives, in our internet and homework and tv shows and cell phones, and we’ve forgotten the joy of being with other people, just to be. There is something remarkable about a group of people being drawn together by common interest. More warm and fuzzies. Allow yourself to be drawn into some live music. (We also have free wireless, if you really need your fix)

-free entertainment (or at the very least, decently priced). Though for most concerts we charge at the door (musicians need to eat, too) , most of the shows coming up are about $10, especially if you buy in advance, and the memories you take away will be way better than two coffees, a movie, a pack of smokes or something else you might spend ten bucks on. Other than that, Wednesday night open mics are free of charge and have been attracting some serious talent. And when music is live, even if it is not your style , it is still entertaining.

In conclusion: shows are sweet. they’re better than the club. they’re a good way to start an evening, or to end it. even if you don’t know the band. if you have no friends, or a whole entourage. music is for everyone.

Habitat has a wicked line up of shows to keep you toasty all winter long.

Warmth comes in numbers, so gather some friends and listen to live music. We don’t mind if you cuddle. In fact, we encourage it.

Get your blood flowing and dance a little. We even have hot soup. And hot chocolate and hot tea.

Resist Winter, Embrace Music.

Warm Music
