Are we really at the half way point already? It seems like things haven't even sunk in yet - the outstanding amount of talent coming from all the artists, the beautiful scenery, how amazing it is that I can actually wake up after 4 hours of sleep...

Last night we were up a bit late filming a short public service announcement (click here to watch) in regards to the BC government planning on cutting funding for arts and culture by up to 50%. For every dollar that is invested into BC Arts, the government sees $1.36 in return - so why the cuts? Of course with the recession, there are things that need to be cut back - things that are deemed "unnecessary". Since when has culture become unnecessary? The arts is a way for people to connect, to express themselves, to showcase their talents. If the government makes these proposed cuts, it will make it far more difficult - maybe even impossible - for artists to continue doing what they love as a career.

On a lighter note, last night was awesome! Showcases from the likes of Adaline, Sweetheart, Alexandria Maillot, and The Painted Birds got some very positive (some may call them cryptic) reviews from our panel of judges. After the performances, and after copious amounts of razzing from both sides, the faculty took on the artists in the 1st (hopefully) annual Peak Performance Project Ball Hockey Tournament. Many skinned knees and scraped elbows showed up for breakfast this morning, but it was the artists who were wearing their battle wounds with pride as they managed to kick some faculty derriere, 11 - 4.

Keynote speakers Barney Bentall and Shaun Verreault just wrapped up their talk on live performance and touring so now we're ready to start to day!

Don't forget to keep on checking out the artist blogs and our daily videos.
