So last night during the showcases I decided to write my blog. Now I put a lot of heart and soul into my blogging and it usually takes me a lot longer than it would any normal person. Working on a Mac has its ups and downs and last night I hit the wrong button and my finished blog vanished to the unknown... So here goes round 2.

I haven't been at summer camp since I was a wee lass and those weeks always seemed to just fly by. This is a totally different experience - I feel like I've been here for a month. By no means do I mean that in a bad way though! I think it's that everyone here is just so friendly and it's so easy to be comfortable around them that I feel like I've known everyone for much longer than 5 days.

Day 5's showcases included Ben Sigston, The Left, Kuba Oms, and We Are The City. All of the performances were absolutely amazing but I think that it's fair to say that We Are The City blew the judges away. It was definitely something to see the judges speechless - they didn't know what just hit them! Day 4 was the "In A Minute" Songwriting Competition where the artists were asked to collaborate with each other and write a song basically in a minute (they had about one night and one morning). TEA was the winner of the grand prize of a $500 gift certificate to Long and McQuade and the 3 runners up, The Left, We Are The City & Adrian Glynn, and TV Heart Attack all received $100 gift certificates. The amount of creative energy flowing through this place is electric. There was a jam session to follow the competition and the music got everyone up and dancing. Every time something like that happens (and trust me, it happens a lot here), a huge smile spreads across my face and I get the chills. I feel like I'm definitely part of something ground-breaking and that gets me even more excited!

Yesterday's (Day 5) keynote speaker was radio host Grant Lawrence from CBC Radio 3. He was the only session speaker and he taught everyone about media training or, as he put it, basically how to convince the media to pay attention to you. Take it from this guy - he definitely knows what he's talking about! He's been so good to The Habitat and Kelowna so I just want to say a big thank you to Grant for everything he's done for us! After the session, the bands had to face some mock interviews and put their new skills to work. Janine Verreault provided representation from the print side, Tamara Stanners from the TV side, and Grant represented radio. With all the practice in my interviews this week, I hope the bands/artists blew them away!

Some smoke rolled into the valley yesterday but that sure didn't stop anyone from being outside. The Blob, the zipline, and the kayaks got a lot of use yesterday. Some guys even took some bikes off the jump into the lake. Our own Brandon also got his fill of the wilderness for the year as he went on a trek up to the Pinnacle (about a 40 minute hike straight up the side of a mountain) to get some extra footage, bless his heart. He ended up getting a bit lost, dropped his radio down the side of a cliff, and (this yet to be confirmed) had to defend himself against a bear. What this boy will do for footage (in Dolce and Gabana underwear and a studded Von Zipper belt nonetheless)!

I'm excited to see what today brings - the sun is shining, everyone is running on little to no sleep, and we're all ready to rock.

Stay wild,

- P.
