Hello world,

It's the afternoon here, and everyone's getting exhausted. Last night wipped everyone out, but in an amazing way.

This whole week has been about the bonds, the changes, the things we've learned and the moments we've shared. Bob D'Eith, Director of Music BC, has been talking about these moments, where the band connects, where the audience connects, where everything just seems to fall into place. Such a moment happened last night. All the acts were phenominal during their showcase. Kuba was so seasoned and so effortless with his interactions that it immediately put everyone into the zone, probably paving the way for what was about to happen.

We Are The City took the stage last for their showcase. I was editing the video very last minute (as usual) and catching some of the songs of theirs I knew. I would start looking up, and the boys would have a pause, or a dance, or slow down, or sped up... they were on a trip and they were taking the audience with them. Everyone was completely invested in their performance. Near the end of their set, something happened. Something clicked. Everything that everyone here had been working for, it's not like we didn't all mesh before, but at this moment, an electricity ran through everyone, we were all one person in the music, in the atmosphere. The energy was tangible, the emotion was palbable, and tears started rolling like no ones business. Even right now, thinking back about it, my eyes are watering. I'm not sure how else to describe it other than, at that exact moment, we all got it. We all understood what we were here for. We all saw what could be accomplished.

To quote The Perks of Being a Wallflower, "In that moment, we were infinite."

I'm not sure I'm even sending the message across properly, but to have a room full of artists, professional, amateur, young, old, and everything in between to be silent, followed by the first standing applause, the first encore, and the first second round of cheering. The judges were speechless. The first comment was one word, "Genius."

They weren't far off.

Everyone was so high from the performance they had to go run off some energy, people were everywhere, everyone was talking about it. As if to stress how perfect all the timing was, some of our staff and friends from Habitat surprised us by showing up just before the final shows. Everyone was impressed and touched by what happened last night. We were caught in the moment, nostalgic for the present.

Late night conversations kept us up until about 4am, and as you know, we were up 3 hours later.

Because that's just how we do here.

Love,
B
