Just a brief note: as appropriately titled,
"f••• your emo scene" or, 'Be Warned, This One Has Bad Words and May Not Be Suitable for Everyone,' does in fact contain bad words and it may very well be that it is not suitable for everyone.

Currently our offices are in disarray. Much in the same way I find my
brain every December/January, upstairs at Habitat is just a bit of a
mess. With items tossed about, walls coming down in place of new ones,
and papers scattered everywhere.
Much of the change went on without me as I was busy with various work for the
PEAK Performance Program
or Habitat posters, so the whole think happened in the blink of an eye
for me. Every time I peeped my head in something had changed
drastically.
In this mess, I found the removable cardboard piece from the top of a Royale tissue box and written on the back in pen was an 'ad hoc comment card' of sorts.
If it's "open" it should be any f•ckin' genre. Including distortion. Fuck your emo scene - its not "open mic" fuck your shut!!
(I've never really understood the replacement of an asterisk or similar item in place of vowels. Even as a child I understood what the word was supposed to be, I didn't think it was fooling anyone. How is it any different to type the full word? In this case, I am using the words proper as a device to convey the urgency with which I felt reading the note...)
As it stands I am unsure as to which night the opinionated individual
refers to in this case, but I assure you that I personally have a heart-on for
distortion. I do not know what happened this specific night that left
this person in such a salty mood—though I would imagine they were either asked to get off
stage or to cut their set short—I'm not sure it really matters either. Our intention is for
Open Mic Wednesdays to be for serious lovers
of music to say something they feel needs to be said, or where they can
practice in front of peers and learn to improve. A place to grow our
community. It would seem then, from the outset of this note, that this
evening didn't quite meet our standards or that of the authors.
Never hold back from telling us how you feel about Habitat. Tell us the good,
the bad, the shiny. The time you broke your beer on the ground and
had to buy another drink (bummer), or the time you found a $10 bill while you were out smoking on
the street (awesome), we want to hear it all!
What I say specifically to the author of this note, "come back." Try again, I work tomorrow (January 13th) night and I'd like to hear you. If you're good, great I'll have a nice surprise on my shift and so will Kelowna. If you suck, we'll kindly ask you to remove yourself from our stage until you've accumulated an acceptable amount of talent (I realize the terms of 'good' and 'bad' are subjective, but so is art. So, tough. I stand by them). If it
doesn't work out again,
write us a real note letting us know how or why
you feel Open Mic let you down! And then, offer some ideas or
solutions. We can't build a community unless we all do it together.
Love,
BWF
